For Nikki, fitness was never supposed to become the next chapter of her career but sometimes the best opportunities start by simply walking through the door.

Located in the One Stop Shopping Centre on Flinders Avenue, Performance Based Fitness (PBF) is far more than a gym. It’s a space built around support, confidence, and genuine community. Where everyday people come to get stronger, fitter, and feel better in themselves.

Offering 24/7 gym access, group fitness classes, HYROX training, strength-based sessions, and personal training, PBF caters to all fitness levels and goals. Whether someone is stepping into a gym for the very first time or already experienced in training, the focus remains the same: creating an environment where people feel welcomed, encouraged, and capable.

Before stepping into the fitness industry, Nikki owned and operated a cupcake shop in Whyalla for five years. In 2023, she started taking classes at PBF when the gym first opened and quickly found herself drawn not only to the training, but to the culture and connection within the space.

When the previous owner, needed occasional help covering classes, Nikki stepped in as a Mojo Coach. That small opportunity sparked something much bigger. She completed her Certificate III in Fitness and Certificate IV in Personal Training, progressed into the role of Club Manager, and before long, was coaching classes, managing the day-to-day operations, and building deep relationships with the members who walked through the doors.

When the opportunity came to purchase the business, it felt like the natural next step.

By then, PBF already felt like hers.

What drives Nikki most is seeing people rediscover belief in themselves. For her, fitness is never just about physical results. It’s about confidence, mindset, resilience, and quality of life. Watching members become stronger, happier, and proud of what they can achieve is what keeps her motivated every day.

She believes the biggest difference at PBF is the atmosphere.

Many people expect gyms to feel intimidating, but at PBF, members quickly realise it feels more like a community than a workout space. There’s hard work, accountability, and results. But there are also friendships, laughter, and a sense of belonging that keeps people coming back.

As Nikki puts it, it doesn’t feel like work at all, it feels like spending the day with her best friends.

Outside the gym, she plays netball, enjoys golf, has developed an unexpected love for running, and is passionate about gardening and growing her own food. She still runs her baking side hustle and loves local markets, while balancing life at home with her husband, two kids, and their two dachshunds, Wednesday and Pugsley.

Despite being confident leading classes and running a business, Nikki describes herself as naturally quiet and happiest at home with her family.

Her love for Whyalla runs deep. She believes strongly in supporting local businesses, creating opportunities beyond the steelworks, and helping build a healthier, more connected community. Through PBF, she hopes to continue doing exactly that, not just by helping people train, but by creating a place where they feel supported, seen, and part of something bigger.

Looking ahead, Nikki is focused on growing PBF even further, expanding into online coaching, and one day moving into a bigger space that allows even more opportunities for members.

Because for her, growth isn’t just about business.
It’s about building stronger people, stronger connections, and a stronger Whyalla.
