Elysian Bleached Threads

For Whyalla artist Kelly Warren, clothing is her canvas.

Through Elysian Bleached Threads, she uses bleach and paintbrushes to transform everyday garments into unique, hand-painted pieces that celebrate the people, memories and passions her customers hold close.

From beloved pets and treasured photographs to favourite cars and imaginative custom requests, Kelly works closely with each customer to bring their ideas to life. Some pieces take a few hours, while the most detailed can take up to 45 hours, with every design reflecting the patience and care behind it.

Kelly established Elysian in November 2023, combining her lifelong love of art with a fascination for creating something a little different. In August 2025, the mum of four took a leap of faith, leaving her retail job to pursue the business full-time.

At the heart of her work is the connection between the artwork and the person wearing it. Seeing a customer’s face light up when they receive their finished piece is what makes the hours worthwhile.

Alongside her signature bleach artwork, Kelly offers personalised apparel and printed designs. She is also working towards introducing creative bleach art workshops, giving others the opportunity to try making their own wearable artwork.

Whyalla is where Kelly has raised her family and is now building her dream. She hopes Elysian shows others that pursuing a creative business is possible right here, with plenty of talent and community support close to home.

Her longer-term dream? A mobile Elysian shop, travelling Australia, sharing her artwork, running workshops and taking a little piece of Whyalla along for the ride.

Whether you have a meaningful image in mind or an idea you would love to explore, get in touch with Kelly to discuss creating something personal.
